After the successful collaboration with Prabal Gurung, Target has up the ante for designer-retailer collaboration with its upcoming 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collection. The lookbook suggests this collection is going to be a hit as it has versatile pieces, from graphic sweaters to elegant silk blouses and scarves to edgy chic leather dresses and jackets. But without doubt, the most coveted items in the collection are going to be the handbags! The iconic 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli satchel gets a budget friendly avatar in the collection with signature zippers and bright yellow, black and navy. The pieces are going to be very affordable — with most ranging from $20 to $75, according to the Wall Street Journal — and appropriate for both the office and going out on the town. The modern, sophisticated feel was by design, according to the designer.
"My favorite part of working on this collection was also the hardest part, which was the challenge of making a modern day capsule wardrobe that actually addresses real needs but at the same time imparted desire," Lim told Glamour, adding that he couldn't just "throw glitter" on clothes and call it good.
"It was really like, ok what are the codes, the modern day codes. And that was the big challenge actually, to actually push further, push a huge entity like Target to actually push back [on me] and actually make sophisticated clothes that didn't require just glitter."
The collection is separated into three sections — morning, noon and night. The highlight of the collection, according to Lim, is the trench.
"The trench, it's amazing," he told Glamour. "Just because of the fabric itself. It's a bonded poplin, you know it's crisp and modern but at the same time, the color combination is great. And the cut is phenomenal. Sharp, slim, classic, and modern."
The 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collection is going to be available in stores and online from September 15, and given the bated breath anticipation, it is going to fly off the rack soon after its debut.
