Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 11 and the 2nd Street Market has gifts which will please any mom!
If your mom likes flowers, The Flowerman can help you find just the right cut flowers for the perfect bouquet…and he will even help you choose a vase!.If you prefer potted flowers, Garber Farms can provide a gorgeous hanging basket of geraniums, petunias or pansies, and Missy’s Wooden Roses can set you up with a fragranced bouquet or a corsage that will last forever.
You could also create your own custom creation with a nice flowerpot from the Wegerzyn Garden store planted with herbs from Garber’s, or surprise your mom with a Down Under Pot from the Wegerzyn Garden shop. Down Under Pots grow plants – notably tomatoes – upside down for optimum drainage while eliminating the need for staking.
One of the Market's newest vendors, Tim’s Gifts n’ More has all sorts of clever, hand-cut wooden items for all ages, including lovely handmade mantel clocks, bird feeders, frames, plaques and many other items for mom on ‘her’ day.
Colorful Me has a brilliant variety of accessories for the home or for personal wear. These items are handcrafted from recycled and repurposed fabrics. Hand woven rag rugs, purses, sewn coiled bowls, glasses cases, Kindle, Nook and Sony Reader covers, and passport covers are just a few of the many items at Vicki’s shop.
Just across the aisle from Colorful Me, Montco Enterprises has some lovely, colorful pins and accessories, stationery, gift cards and crocheted items, and proceeds go to help disabled individuals in the community.
Baked goods? Garber Farms has those too, with a great assortment of homemade pies, angel food cakes, cookies, jams and other delicious items to choose from. Maria’s Unique Foods has the most beautifully decorated cookies at the market – homemade locally – for only $1.99. You can also find fresh homemade whoopie pies, an amazing assortment of pickled eggs, homemade buckeyes and other candy, handcrafted granolas and other tasty items.
Are you ‘cooking’ for mom on Mother’s Day? Baan Thai Noi has great Thai food to go (try the fresh summer rolls!), and the Chef Case has a variety of delicious entrees and side dishes (using local foods whenever possible), including vegetarian options. Fresh meat pies can be purchased at Cheeky Meat Pies, or you can buy some frozen ones to pop into your oven at home.
Arepas has wonderful South American comfort foods; All Souped Up has delicious, filling soups and sandwiches, and Azra’s has terrific Greek and Middle-Eastern foods – all of these can be ordered ‘to go’.
If you truly are doing the cooking, you can get locally raised meat from KJB Farms and cheese from Blue Jacket Dairy out of Bellefontaine. Garber’s and Hydrogrower’s have the produce, and Rahn’s and Big Sky, the bread. The Wine Gallery has some great choices of wine, and Azra’s and Purely Sweet Bakery offer many options for dessert.
