It was the 15th day of October 2011, the sky was a beautiful blue and the early morning air was crisp. The city of Branson was bustling with tourists scouting out the next exciting event. It was the perfect day for the “2nd Annual Titanic Firehouse & Charity Chili Cook-Off” located at the glorious Titanic Museum in lovely Branson, Missouri. The air was grandly scented with the fragrance of the many varieties of chili being prepared for entry into the contest. Each contestant had their own secret chili recipe. The theme of the event was to honor the firemen/stokers who fought to save the lives of the passengers of the ill-fated Titanic. This was an exciting, fun and delightful event designed to benefit different significant charities. The winner of the event was Camp Barnabas, located in Purdy, Missouri. Several other successful contestants also received awards for their delicious chili concoctions and for their outstanding decorations. Awards received by all contestants were donated to the charity of their choice.
A few of the well-known contestants included Branson Fire Rescue, the Forsyth Lions Club, Gilley’s Texas Café, the St. Louis Cardinal's Fan Team, the Strafford Fire Department, Camp Barnabas, the Animal Shelter and the well known Stoddard family representing their pizza business located in Rockaway Beach, Missouri. The contestants in the cook-off made some of the most masterful concoctions of chili that we have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Your Examiner sampled every entry and it is our belief that all of the contestants were winners. We salute everyone’s participation in this fun and important charitable event. We also express our appreciation to the "Titanic Museum" and to the Branson "Track" for sponsoring this event.
Everyone is looking forward to next year’s chili cook-off which is sure to be an exciting, fun and successful event to benefit needy charitable organizations. Keep your eyes open for the announcement of next year’s event.
