The "2nd Annual NFL Honors" will be broadcast on CBS Television Network on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 (9-11 p.m. ET/PT), according to a Jan. 8, 2013 press release from CBS. The two-hour primetime awards show is being broadcast on the eve of Super Bowl XLVII, from Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans, La.
The show salutes the top National Football League (NFL) players and performances from the 2012 season. Actor Alec Baldwin will serve as host of the star studded football and entertainment event. The event will include a special performance by OneRepublic and appearances by Hall of Famers Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders
The NFL and The Associated Press (AP) announce their annual accolades in an awards show format. NFL Honors, which debuted last year, is now an annual event from the Super Bowl city. The winners will be on hand to accept the awards.
Among the awards that will be announced will be the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, which recognizes a player’s off-the-field community service as well as his playing excellence.
Seven of the awards will be from the AP. Those awards, which include AP Most Valuable Player (MVP) and AP Coach of the Year, are voted on at the end of the regular season by a nationwide media panel of 50 people who regularly cover the league. The ballots are tabulated solely by the AP.
The AP Awards include: AP Most Valuable Player presented by Papa John’s, AP Coach of the Year, AP Offensive Player of the Year, AP Offensive Rookie of the Year presented by Pepsi Max, Comeback Player of the Year presented by Lenovo, Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year presented by Pepsi Max.
Additional awards include: Pepsi Max Rookie of the Year, GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year, NFL.com Fantasy Player of the Year presented by SAP, Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Year, Bridgestone Play of the Year, “Greatness of the Road” Award presented by Courtyard Marriott and Salute To Service Award presented by USAA
