One of the landmarks of Los Angeles Metropolitan area is the Santa Monica Pier. Since 1983 the pier offers free concerts by the beach every Thursday July 5th to September 6th, 7:00 to 10:00 pm. The 2012 edition of the Twilight Concert Series will delight “an audience as diverse as the acts on stage”. This year the Latino night is on August 23 with the presentations of Alex Cuba and Lucky 7 Mambo.

Alex Cuba, a Cuban solo singer-songwriter mixes the pop-soul hooks and rock chords o give his audience sugar-sweet melodies. Alex started at a very young age under his father direction in his native Cuba. After he found his own style, his debut CD with the Alex*Cuba Band, “Humo de Tabaco” earned him a Juno Award in 2006 with the single “Lo mismo que yo”. His first-ever song in English is “If you give me love”

Lucky 7 Mambo has a fusion of rhythms inspired in the 1950 and 60s’ Spanish Harlem. It has the high energy sounds of the classic mambo featuring the harmonies of the vibraphone. The band is inspired by old-school greats like jimmy Sabater, Cheo Feliciano and Joe Cuba. Its unique style draws the best of the Cuban beat, African-American Jazz and Puerto Rican Soul. It incorporates both English and Spanish lyrics flowing in and out of the same tune and offers up not just a swinging dance beat, but a thoughtful account of love, lost, Latin pride and clever double-entendres.

The Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concert Series’ key elements are music, community and discovery. The website invites Angelinos and visitors to “to join the crowd that stretches from the Pier deck to the beach and beyond as the Santa Monica Bay’s gorgeous summer days blend into enchanting evening of family, friends, music and magic.”
