Tuesday Jun. 17 through Thursday Jun.19, 277DanceProject returns to Dixon Place for three evening performances featuring the premiere of FLIGHT. The collaboratively-driven, contemporary dance company was formed in 2008 under the artistic direction of Choreographer Nicole Philippidis. A native New Yorker, Philippidis takes on her experience and thoughts about growing up and living in this city in her new work, FLIGHT. In the process, she asked her dancers to do the same, sharing the thoughts they have on the subway, for instance.
“In a city that both inspires us and isolates us, feeds us and depletes us, forces us to be both resilient and humble, empathetic and desensitized…FLIGHT explores the pull between our need to escape and disconnect and our deep need to connect and belong.”
Philippidis' 60-minute dance work (choreographed in collaboration with the dancers) is set to the music of indie folk band, Burlap to Cashmere. The piece also dips into the realm of multimedia performance with the inclusion of video throughout. The five 277DanceProject dancers performing are: Nathan Duszny, Hannah Emerson, Jordan Gehley, Benjamin Wolk, and Mika Yanagihara. To learn more about FLIGHT, check out the promo video above! Tickets are only $15 (in advance) and can easily be purchased online here.
