27-pound lobster caught in Maine the monster catch of the decade (Video)

Imagine hauling in a 27-pound lobster? That is just what Robert Malone, a cushing shrimp fisherman, did on Friday February 17, 2012.

Malone caught hold of the monster 27-pound lobster in his nets, just near Rockford, Maine gaining the surprise of his fishing career.

Yahoo News reported that the giant lobster was close to 40 inches long weighing in at a remarkable in at 27-pounds and was given the nickname Rocky.

Aimee Hayden-Rodriguez, the Maine State aquarium Director stated that Robert Malone gave the 27-pound lobster to the Department of Maine Resources.

Rocky is the biggest lobster ever to be brought in to the aquarium, edging out his previous competitor by 4 pounds.with lobster selling for about $12 per pound on the low end of the scale that would mean that Rocky would be about a $500 meal easily.

Even so the 27- pound lobster is not the biggest lobster recorded on record, the biggest on record was caught near Nova Scotia and weighed 40-pounds.

Rocky will remain on display at the aquarium in Boothbay Harbor, until he will be released back into the  his ocean home where he will hopefully live a long and happy life.

If this story now finds you craving a seafood dinner you can head out to one of the many Cincinnati Red Lobster locations to satisfy that craving, but you will have to enjoy an average size 1-2 pound lobster dinner, but really who could eat a 27-pound lobster anyway?
