The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) hosts the 25th Annual Winter Park Open starting tomorrow, aka New Year’s Day, through Thursday, Jan. 3 at Winter Park Resort. Adaptive athletes come from all over the world to compete for spots on the US National or Paralympic National team. This event is also hosted by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing, USA Paralympics and the United States Paralympic Committee.
This year the Winter Park Open will feature 74 athletes from nine countries including the U.S., Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Iceland, Chile, Australia, Canada and Great Britain. The race can be seen from the Balcony House at Winter Park Resort.
“These athletes have worked hard to compete at this level and everyone of them have their hearts set on making it to the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi,” said Erik Petersen, competition director for NSCD. “On Tuesday there will be two Super G Races, one national race where the 2013 winner will be crowned and one NorAm race."
