25th annual Detroit Auto Show drives into town Jan.14-27

The 25th annual North American International Auto Show will go into high gear January 14-27 at Detroit’s CoBo Center, featuring a dazzling array of more than 500 of the latest and most innovative vehicles to hit the market in the year ahead. Among the “must sees” is the BMW X4 SUV, designed to “rival the appearance, dimensions and packaging of the Porsche Macan,” according to BMW chairman Norbert Reithofer, as well as the all new 2014 V*8 Chevy Corvette.

General Motors announced that it will the new Corvette will offer a 6.32liter engine that combines direct fuel injection, continuously variable camshaft timing, which adjusts the opening and closing of the valves based on engine load and cylinder deactivcation which shuts down some of the engine's cylinders under light loads. The new V8 will also produce at least 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque.

GM will also introduce is redesigned versions of Chevy Silverado and GMC full-sized trucks. While they may appear to have the same basic styling themes features for the past 6 year, General Motors has reworked the structural integrity with a lighter (but more rigid) frame and cab
Those with the “need for speed” will certainly find it in Bentley’s Continental GT Speed convertible. The Bentley runs a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 pushing out 616 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, enabling a sprint to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. In addition, the hardtop model, which is nearly identical (though it weighs a touch less, allowing for slightly quicker acceleration) is considered to be the “fastest Bentley ever,” clocking in at 205 mph.

Not to be outdone, BMW will unveil four new models including the highly anticipated 4-Series Coupe, replacing the old 3-Series; and the brand new M6 Gran Coupe featuring a large carbon fiber roof and two more doors than the regular M6, while utilizing the same V8 engine with M Twin Power Turbo technology developing 412 kW/560 hp and peak torque of 680 Newton meters (502 lb-ft).

BMW will also present a cosmetically enhanced and more fuel efficient Z4 Roadster, as well a their new Limited Edition Lifestyle equipment package for the BMW 1-Series Coupe and BMW 1-Series Convertible.
