Norfolk Festevents put on another fantastic Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food Festival at Town Point Park in Norfolk, Virginia. Festevents is responsible for producing some incredible events for the Hampton Roads community. The signature events include: Harborfest, Bayou Boogaloo, the 4th of July great America Picnic, the Norfolk Waterfront Jazz Festival, Norfolk Latino Music Festival, Virginia's Children Festival, Wine Festivals, and many more.

As a resident of Norfolk and former employee of Festevents (many years ago), I will tell you that Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food Festival is my all-time favorite festival. It takes place on the third weekend of June almost every year. You missed it this time but hopefully you can make it out for 26th annual.

The Bayou Boogaloo is an event that combines so many great things for festival goers. It is a three day event and admission for all three days is $20.00 a person but there are a couple specials that can bring that cost down. You can find discounted tickets from various online coupon companies and you can also get in free if you have an AT&T phone (AT&T is a long time sponsor). When you get into the park for the event there are various musical acts, delicious food vendors, and New Orleans artists who are brought to the festival by Norfolk Festevents. This part of the festival started after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. The entertainment and food vendors are also either from New Orleans or have a deep Louisiana influence.

One of the main things about this festival is the sense of community that you feel when you are there. People are seeing old friends and sharing a beer or a hurricane, meeting new friends as they explain how to eat a crawfish, gather by the water to take in the sun and enjoy the sounds of Dr. John, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Anders Osborne (just to name a few).

Bayou Boogaloo was a success once again and I commend the folks at Norfolk Festevents because I know how daunting it is to put on such a festival but they excel in everything they do. Thank you for providing so many great festivals for so many years.

Check out my slide show for some of the sights on the Saturday of Bayou Boogaloo.
