250+ jobs may come to Milwaukee

The Business Journal and JS Online are reporting today that Republic Airways Holding is planning on bringing 150 to 400 jobs to Milwaukee later this year. Republic is the company that purchased Midwest Airlines earlier this year and is about to acquire Frontier Airlines. About 150 jobs would be shifted from a Frontier call center in New Mexico and about 100 jobs from a maintenance facility in Denver. The decision to move the call center to Milwaukee, Denver or Indianapolis to save costs will be made in the next 30 days. There are about 100 other positions also being reviewed. A decision on the maintenance jobs and other positions has not been made. Milwaukee is in the running with Denver and Indianapolis. Milwaukee is being considered because of the facilities Midwest Airlines already has in place in Oak Creek and its maintenance facility at the airport.

On September 2ndMidwest Airlines announced it was laying off 59 flight crews and replacing Midwest jets with Republic equipment. This is in addition to the 2000 employees laid off in July before the airline was sold to Republic.
