One of the goals of the Bear Creek United Methodist Women is to expand the concepts of mission through the Annual Craft Bazaar. Each year, a partner charity is selected to receive the majority of proceeds from this event and this year, Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition (HRRC) has been chosen. The HRRC was established as a volunteer coalition in 2005 in response to the growing recognition and alarm over the prevalence of human trafficking in the Greater Houston Metropolitan region. Due to their rapidly growing organizational size and proliferation of protection/prevention projects, HRRC became a 501(c ) (3) in December of 2007. HRRC exists to prevent and confront modern-day slavery by educating the public, training professionals and empowering the community to take action for the purpose of identifying, rescuing and restoring trafficking victims to freedom. The Bear Creek United Methodist Women felt it vitally important to support such a worthy cause affecting women and children!
Craft Bazaar Chair, Leslie Kajileh said, "Through our partnership with the Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition we have had a chance to impact our local community in a way that helps these victims of modern day slavery. We hope to inspire others to get involved in this important cause."
