Police said they have identified the man who was fatally shot Monday afternoon and are still searching for suspects, according to a Tuesday morning news release from the Jackson Police Department.

The release said 24-year-old Gary Morris, of Jackson, was the victim of Monday’s fatal shooting on Brianfield Cove.

Investigators have worked since the homicide occurred to positively identify the man and said in a Monday afternoon news release that once the man was identified, his name would be released to the public after next-of-kin notification.

Police also said they are trying to identify and locate two people of interest in the homicide.

Both were described as being black males, who are in their late teens to early 20s, and were last seen in the area of Hillshire Drive and Northfield Cove. They were both wearing white t-shirts and one was wearing red shorts.

The release said around 1:15 p.m. Monday, Jackson police were called to the 20 block of Brianfield Cove.

Police said based on the preliminary investigation, Morris was shot in the immediate area of the cove. Morris then went to an apartment, of a person who he knew, forced his way inside the apartment and collapsed.

Jackson police investigators and a Madison County medical examiner were called to the scene.

The release said Morris' body was transported to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville for an autopsy.

Police are asking that anyone with information about this homicide and the people of interest is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department's Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 731-424-8477 (TIPS).
