Jack Bauer has certainly seen his share of troubles on "24," but never exactly like this. According to a new report by TMZ, Kiefer Sutherland fell victim to a Ponzi scheme that cost him $869,000. Once you factor in the $100,000 that the actor made in a previous deal, his net loss is close to $770,000.
The man behind the alleged scheme, Michael Wayne Carr, was someone who Kiefer never actually met face-to-face; however, the deals were looked over and approved by his financial team. As for the nature of the deal, it pertained to the cattle industry; the animals were brought up to the United States through Mexico and ultimately sold.
Investigators in California are still working on the case; Carr, meanwhile, has already been charged with 12 different felonies. Ponzi schemes have become much more of a public topic of conversation thanks in part to the recent actions of Bernie Madoff in New York.
Are you surprised the Kiefer Sutherland fell victim to this scheme? Let me know your thoughts with a comment below.

Kiefer seems to have a bit of bad luck following him. I've been reading about his life in "Kiefer Sutherland: Living Dangerously." Kiefer's been in trouble with the law for drinking, he's been to jail and now he's lost almost a million dollars on imaginary cows. Poor guy. I didn't even know that Kiefer was a rancher until I read "Living Dangerously." It's a great book. Kiefer seems like a great guy. Hope things work out for him.
