After being postponed a week due to weather, the sold out San Diego Music Awards Show took place on October 16 this year and was held at Humphrey’s by the Bay. A celebration of the San Diego sound since 1991, this awards show featured stage performances; a Lifetime Achievement Award, an Academy made up of a who’s who of local music industry professionals, and of course awards for the local musicians. Proceeds raised from the show benefited the Guitars for Schools Program. Live performances were made by Sara Watkins, Sara Petite, Tristan Prettyman, Blackout Party, The Palace Ballroom, and Old Tiger who stepped in after The Heavy Guilt were unable to make the rescheduled show. The Lifetime Achievement Award for this year was presented to Jazz artist Daniel Jackson. Mr. Jackson has been on the San Diego music scene for over sixty years and had performed with music greats such as Ray Charles, Buddy Rich, and Willie Bobo. Jackson plays the saxophone as well as piano and happily performed for the crowd after receiving his emotional award. It was a night for Jazz artists, who swept the show; winning awards for Artist of the Year, Best Jazz Album, and Best Jazz was Gilbert Castellanos. Various San Diego Artists accepted awards in the twenty-eight categories as the evening came to a close just minutes after 10 P.M.
