Maui is a magical place to be year-round but this May is especially enchanted. The 22nd Annual Celebration of the Arts at Ritz-Carlton Kapalua has been lauded as one of the best cultural experiences in all of Hawai’i, bringing together cultural practitioners, artisans, educators and entertainers for the well-respected event.
From the “E Ala E” rising of the sun ceremony to the Blessing of the Waters of Kane, guests can experience a deeper Hawaiian culture than pineapples and mai tais. The 22nd anniversary theme is ‘Ko makou alanui kupuna… Our Ancestral Paths,’ that promises a nod to the past while looking at the contemporary Hawaii of today and envisioning the future.
Hands-on art demonstrations, limu limu (local seaweed with holistic values) tastings and a traditional (not tourist) luau all are to be enjoyed on property. Starting May 9th and lasting until May 11th, the cultural awakening is inviting family matriarchs to celebrate the Mother’s Day weekend as well as learn more about Hawaiian culture. Cumulating in a Mother’s Day brunch on property, crafted art for Mom from the celebration is a perfect way to observe this Mother’s Day on Maui.
You can read about the 19th annual celebration of the arts here. I will have the privilege of experiencing the 22nd annual celebration, so stay tuned for more coverage, new photos, and “talking story” from Hawaii in upcoming months.
