22 killed in collision as gravel truck hits bus carrying migrant workers (Video)

Monday 22 were killed in a collision in the United Arab Emirates, according to Reuters on Feb. 4. The accident happened when a truck carrying gravel collided with a bus full of migrant workers, according to details from the police. More than two dozen others are injured according to officials.

The bus had 46 Asian migrant workers aboard, and the Gulf News from Dubai indicates many of them were from Bangladesh. While at least 22 were killed in the collision, another 24 are reportedly injured. It is said at least five of those people are critically injured. The collision happened in the town of al-Ain. Reuters notes that the death toll on UAE roads is one of the highest in the world, as this crash would seem to reinforce.

Xinhua notes that the 22 killed in the collision are believed to be cleaning workers and some of the victims are Pakistani in addition to many having been from Bangladesh. At this time officials are indicating that the truck deviated from its route and the brakes were not in working order on the truck.
