20th Century Fox has purchased the film rights to Benjamin Mee's book "We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Broken-Down Zoo, and the 200 Animals That Changed a Family Forever". “We Bought A Zoo” tells the story of how Mee and his family used their life savings to buy a dilapidated zoo and restore it to its former glory.
Oscar winning director Cameron Crowe has signed on to helm the film, which will be his first project since 2005. Aline Brosh McKenna, well known for her adaptation of "The Devil Wears Prada", penned the original screenplay, however Cameron Crowe rewrote the script to reflect it's sensibilities. Julie Yorn is producing along with Mark Gordon. Yorn has produced such films as Max Payne, Bride Wars, Unstoppable, and is currently producing the Catherine Hardwicke film Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried.

It has been confirmed that Matt Damon is being offered the starring role.
The deadline to submit your audition video is July, 26th 2010. Filming begins in January, 2011 and the scheduled release date is December 23, 2011. Shooting will take place in Thousand Oaks, CA.
