The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association elected Richard L. Chinen as president of the Tournament of Roses for 2014-2015 on Thursday, Jan. 16, and at 8 p.m., he announced the theme for the 126th Rose Parade and 101st Rose Bowl Game, which will be held on Jan. 1, 2015: “Inspiring Stories.”
Chinen sent a list of hints to the float builders so their designers could get busy on drawing up ideas for their sponsors, but since themes are generally broad and the hints could lead to a multitude of phrases, it was difficult to guess what it might be.
“The 2015 theme allows us to reflect on and appreciate the many people around us who elevate the human spirit by who they are, what they have done and what they continue to do,” said Chinen. “Inspiring Stories pays tribute to those who have loved unconditionally, persevered courageously, endured patiently and accomplished much on behalf of others. Whether for justice, for charity or for any other good, these stories stand out because they are about those who reach out beyond themselves with humility and resolve.”
Tomorrow: an interview with Chinen, more on the theme, and the new leadership on the TOR Executive Committee.
