Fiat Chrysler announced today (April 7) that they will be showing their new 2015 Fiat 500 vehicle lineup at the 2014 New York International Auto Show which starts April 18 – showing some enhancements aimed at driver convenience and user ease – which they look to rekindle the excitement that got the iconic brand off to such a good start in the U.S. originally.
2015 Fiat 500 models (Sport, Lounge, Turbo and Abarth) will sport a new advanced instrument panel with a 7-inch high-definition TFT (Thin Film Transistor) cluster display to convey drive experience information to the driver.
Fiat says experience factors that will be available to display for the driver will include speed, fuel level, Eco index and trip information.
The customizable main screen will display an image of the vehicle surrounded by a range of trip related information, including distance traveled, gas mileage and range remaining along with a radio screen that displays information about the station selected and a telephone screen showing call information.
Fiat adds that, to further excite buyers of the 2015 Fiat 500, they have redesigned the center console to now include a redesigned cup holder and a USB port. Further, new Fiat 500 models will now include Bluetooth streaming audio in addition to the already standard Bluetooth phone connectivity.
Six-Speed Automatic Transmission for Abarth
For the performance enthusiast, the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio will offer its high performance capability to more drivers with the addition of a new Aisin AW6F25 six-speed automatic transmission which is reinforced with more clutch plates and a more robust heat treatment to allow for higher torque capability to match the Abarth turbo engine’s output.
A Sport Mode calibration allows for an even more engaged driving experience with special features such as fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts, brake-assist downshifts, corner gear hold and fast-off gear hold, as well as a more aggressive pedal map.
The five-speed manual transmission option (for shifting purists) remains with both paired to the Abarth 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine.
New paint colors will also come on the 2015 Fiat 500 line. They include (in Fiat style) Giallo Moderna Perla – a modern pearl yellow, Laser Blu – a bright metallic blue and Billet Argento which is a a billet silver.
The 2015 Fiat 500 lineup will be available in studios beginning in July 2014 according to Fiat.
Still More to Come
But the Fiat brand and Design Studio excitement for 2015 won’t end there.
Look for the new 2015 Fiat 500X (which is the companion to the 2015 Jeep Renegade) – that will create a whole new outdoor and off-road experience for the Fiat line – just after the first of the year.
And, later this year (fourth quarter), select Fiat Design Studios will begin carrying the all new Alfa Romeo 4C two-seat sports car.
