The 2014 WWE Royal Rumble is rapidly approaching. As one of the original four pay per views in WWE history, here are some facts and figures from the event:

This year’s event will 27th annual event (the 26th to take place on pay per view).

This is the 22nd time the winner of the Royal Rumble match itself gets a World Championship match at Wrestle Mania.

Only six cities have hosted the event twice; Miami, Fresno, San Antonio, New York City, Atlanta and Boston.

Counting this year’s event, here are the other 15 cities to host the event: Hamilton, Houston, Orlando, Albany, Sacramento, Providence, Tampa, San Jose, Anaheim, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Detroit, St. Louis, Phoenix and Pittsburgh.

Finally, there have been 38 World Title matches in the history of the event and only seven times has a title changed hands:

-The ECW Championship was defended in 2007, 2009 and 2010 but never changed hands.

-The World Heavyweight Championship was defended in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and never changed hands.

-The WWE Championship was defended in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 with a new champion being crowned just seven times. The first time was 1991 (Sgt. Slaughter defeated The Ultimate Warrior and the last time was 2013 (The Rock defeated CM Punk).
