One Direction (the boy band that came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010) won four prizes at the 2014 World Music Awards, which took place on May 27 at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, Monaco. One Direction (who did not attend the ceremony) won the awards for Best Group, Best-Selling British Artist, Best-Selling Record Act and Best Pop Act. NBC was supposed to have the U.S. telecast of the show on May 28, 2014, but cancelled it and showed a rerun of "Last Comic Standing" instead. NBC did not give an explanation for the cancellation.

One Direction received 17 nominations at the 2014 World Music Awards, including Best Entertainer, Best Live Act and Best Group.

The ceremony featured performances from two former "X Factor" U.K. winners: James Arthur ("X Factor" U.K. winner in 2012) and Leona Lewis ("X Factor" U.K. winner in 2006).

Arthur was nominated for six prizes: Best Song (for "Impossible"), Best Album (for "James Arthur"), Best Video (for "Impossible"), Best Live Act, Best Entertainer and Best Male Artist.

Lewis had five nominations: Best Entertainer, Best Female Artist, Best Song (for "One More Sleep"), and her music videos for "One More Sleep" and "Run" were each nominated for Best Video.

Other artists who appeared on the show include Mariah Carey (who received an Icon Award for having sold over 200 million records and having more No.1 singles in America than any other solo act), Miley Cyrus (who won several prizes, including Best Female Artist), Ricky Martin (who received the Latin Legend Award for his global record sales), Jason Derulo, Angunn, Fall Out Boy, Flo Rida, Chris Cab, Tinie Tempah, Naughty Boy, Stromae, Tal, Laura Pausini, Ylvis, David Bisbal and Han Geng.

After the ceremony, Arthur tweeted: "Last night was really cool. What an honour to perform just after Mariah Carey at the world music awards!! Crazy sh*t man!!"

In addition to One Direction, Arthur and Lewis, several other past and present "X Factor" stars were nominated for prizes at the 2014 World Music Awards, including Sam Bailey, Olly Murs, Rebecca Ferguson, Dami Im and Union J. Several former "X Factor" judges were also nominated, including Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Guy Sebastian, Nicole Scherzinger, Gary Barlow, Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland.
