2014 will be a big year for permaculture

Permaculture is not a household word to many people; they look at you with a funny face when you mention the word or heavens forbid you tell them that you are a permaculturalist. The immediate response is what is permaculture? Then a few seconds of stammering and stuttering to develop a response, but what exactly is it and why will it be important in 2014?

The teachings of Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, the originator of permaculture provide a concise list of principles, ethics and directives based on their observations of nature. The complete teachings can be applied to your residence, business, or corporation which include architecture, energy, transportation, food supply, economics, ecology, and most important or all your decision process. The outputs from your daily decisions after being taught the concepts have no limits; you can achieve anything with the knowledge provided, I have provided an abridged list below due to space limitations.

  16. Create an allotment garden
  17. Setup and run a produce stand
  18. Obtain a job in the green energy field
  19. Work as a missionary and teach life sustaining skills wherever you go in the world
  20. Work with local, state, or federal governments to obtain grant money for sustainable projects
  21. Provide a legacy for your children or grandchildren
  22. Remove water issues around your home or business
  23. Learn methods for food preservation
  24. Obtain the skills that work together as a system regardless of your location in the world
  25. Learn to enjoy your life again
  26. Find other people in your area that have similar interests
  27. Create a bartering or time share system
  28. Learn how to apply micro economics in your area

As you can see from the brief list provided, permaculturalists are assisting in many fields that directly affect you or your family already, and the number is increasing everyday.
