It's a new year as we step into 2014. What is your goal for the new year. It could be many you can mention. But while you learn martial arts, there is so much you can write and plan goals, but what is your goal, not goals, your direct target? Whatever it is, make sure it becomes permanent, and you can master to perfect at least one skill.
Many martial art schools teach their students what they need to learn to get the next belt or to reach the next level to be in a higher rank. But the rank is just a knowledge but does not mean you have perfected a skill. If you can not do a side kick properly then its what you might want to work on. If you don't have the perfect stances or correct technique of that one move, then its what you should work on. If its sparring, then it should maybe start on your foot work and work on either offense of defense. What is a skill you wish to master not just create many goals to reach your rank. Even if it means perfect a form as it should also mean to create and discipline the skill of performing a perfect punch or kick and stance.
Find what you are weak in. If it is you are weak in doing pushups then work on your pushups. If its about trying to be a body builder to get the six pack abs then work on it. But if you are trying to become someone who looks good but not have the perfect form then you have to balance what you wish to work on. Master on one concept while perfecting on other skills. If it's wanting to learn a grappling added move then master that one move. Once you can create your own interpretation of that move then its easier to master another technique. But it takes dedication what you wish to plan out your goal on what to master. If it's speed then work on timing for the speed to be useful for one attack mastering that one move in its technique.
It's a new year so take one piece at a time. Martial Arts takes a life time to master. So break it down and learn from your mistakes to improve your weaknesses to make them your strengths.
