Even though the opening ceremonies start Friday, there will be competition on Thursday in Russia (Wednesday in western Canada) at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. According to Mark Sappenfield of the Christian Science Monitor on Wednesday, American snowboarding star Shaun White called the Olympic men's slopestyle snowboarding course dangerous when he announced his intent to drop out of the event to focus on the halfpipe.
Canada has an excellent chance to medal in men's and women's slopestyle snowboarding this weekend as the sport is making its Olympic debut. However before Maxence Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec, Mark McMorris of Regina, Sebastien Toutant of L'Assomption, Quebec and Spencer O'Brien of Courtenay, British Columbia compete on the weekend, they will have to get through qualifying without any serious issues or problems. McMorris is set to compete with a broken rib.
The slopestyle snowboarding event for the men will take place at 11:00 p.m. mountain time on Wednesday night. The competition can be seen on the CBC website.
