AutoBlog announced yesterday (March 5, 2013) that Volkswagen unveiled there 2014 Volkswagen GTD at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. It’s the norm for the U.S. market to feel somewhat left out from all these awesome vehicle updates and reveals, as most are bound for European markets only. But this little gem of a diesel burner is indeed headed into U.S. showrooms (later confirmed by Car and Driver). This current generation VW Golf saw the introduction of a turbo-diesel option into the U.S. market, and with this latest generation turbodiesel, strong sales are ensured.
The press release was short and sweet and didn't offer much in the form of details, but the most important bits are all there. Volkswagen dubs there diesels the, “ the long distance express” and rightfully so as not only does it sip diesel, but has the torque to match.
Volkswagen’s newest updated 2.0 Liter turbo-diesel now pumps out a healthy 184 HP and 280 lbs-ft of torque ( the most powerful diesel in VW’s history). Coupled to a 6 speed gearbox and a Start/Stop system, the 2014 Golf GTD is capable of 56 MPG ( on the Euro drive cycle).
0-60 mph comes in 7.5 seconds. Top speed is 143 mph. Three colors available include Tornado Red, Black and Pure White
