Following the conclusion of professional hockey's 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1, the list of players officially nominated to the 2014 U.S. Olympic men's hockey team was at long last revealed to eager fans, bringing to a close months of speculation regarding who would claim the much-coveted berths on the Sochi-bound squad.

A trio of goalies were named to the team, including:

  • Jimmy Howard

The defensive roster includes the following eight players:

  • John Carlson
  • Justin Faulk
  • Cam Fowler
  • Paul Martin
  • Ryan McDonagh

  • Kevin Shattenkirk
  • Ryan Suter

Finally, 14 Forwards stamped their respective tickets to Sochi. Included in the mix are:

  • David Backes
  • Dustin Brown
  • Ryan Callahan
  • Patrick Kane
  • Ryan Kesler

  • T.J. Oshie
  • Max Pacioretty

  • Blake Wheeler

The U.S. team, which claimed silver at the 2010 Vancover Games behind host nation Canada following a heart-stopping hour of play capped by a crushing overtime goal by Sidney Crosby, enters the Sochi Olympics as a strong contender for gold.

Ice hockey has been an Olympic staple since its inclusion in the 1920 Summer Games in Antwerp, Belgium, where the U.S. claimed silver behind Canada's gold medal team.

Olympic ice hockey action at the Sochi Winter Games kicks off Feb. 12 with preliminary round games.
