Gateway Motorsports Park was closed at the end of the 2010 racing season, but reopened in 2012 as the host of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. The NHRA returns to the facility’s 1/4-mile dragstrip for the NHRA Midwest Nationals, September 26th through 28th, as part of the 2014 Countdown to the Championship, while NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series returns to St. Louis on Saturday, June 14th. In addition, USAC’s Silver Crown Series will race on the same day as the Truck Series returns.
Gateway Motorsports Park is a multi-use facility that is also home to a 1.25-mile oval and a 1.6-mile road course. In the past, it has hosted CART and IndyCar, the SCCA and other sports car club, and NASCAR’s Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. The first event at the facility was a CART race on Memorial Day weekend in 1997, scheduled the day before the IRL’s Indianapolis 500 in the days of split series. In the 2008 NHRA event, John Force earned his 1,000th round win on his 59th birthday.
Tickets for the Truck Series/USAC Silver Crown race are now on sale at www.gatewaymsp.com; general admission tickets are $36, with reserved seats going for $49 and $59; pitside/infield passes can be added for $25. Tickets for the Midwest Nationals are not yet on sale; stay tuned to the NHRA website (www.nhra.com) for ticket information as it becomes available.
