This January the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) and the SFS Chorus will join forces with world-renowned tenor Plácido Domingo, all under the baton of SFS Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas, to celebrate the 80th birthday of composer Gordon Getty, who has also been a generous SFS supporter. This concert will be the only public celebration of Getty’s birthday. It will also be Domingo’s first SFS appearance since his SFS debut in 1973, when he sang Giuseppe Verdi’s setting of the Requiem text with then-Music Director Edo de Waart conducting. Details have not yet been announced, but MTT is preparing a program that will include music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Thomas Tallis, as well as Getty himself.
This celebration for Getty will take place at 8 p.m. on Monday, January 6, in Davies Symphony Hall (201 Van Ness Avenue, between Grove Street and Hayes Street). Ticket prices will be between $75 and $350. An event page has not yet been created for this concert on the SFS Web site. Those interested in inquiring about ticket purchases are encouraged to call 415-864-6000.
