NHRA Top Fuel driver Brittany Force earned her second No. 1 qualifier of the season after qualifying for the Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Tennessee. Del Worsham (Funny Car) and Shane Gray (Pro Stock) also earned No. 1s in their respective classes.
Force earned the No. 1 spot with her Friday pass of 3.828 seconds at 317.94 mph; she’ll face Chris Karamesines in the first round of eliminations on Sunday. JR Todd qualified No. 2, followed by Tony Schumacher, Antron Brown and Spencer Massey.
“(Winning) would be the ultimate Father’s Day present to my dad,” said Force on NHRA .com. “I love coming here to Bristol. It’s one of my favorite tracks by far. It’s just beautiful and green, and I have forgotten how loud it is when you’re standing down here at Thunder Valley. Standing on the starting line watching my sister, it’s so much louder, and being down here, it just intensifies the entire experience. I’m excited for race day, and I would love to end up in the winner’s circle, especially on race day.”
Worsham earned the top spot in Funny Car with a track-record pass of 3.992 seconds at 319.45 mph, the only car to break into the three-second bracket this weekend. He’ll face Jeff Arend in first-round action on Sunday. Tim Wilkerson took the No. 2 spot, with Ron Capps, Robert Hight and Tommy Johnson Jr. rounding out the top five.
Gray will face No. 16 Curt Steinbach in the first round after earning the spot in Pro Stock with a pass of 6.621 seconds at 208.78 mph. Jeg Coughin Jr. starts No. 2, followed by Erica Enders-Stevens, Jason Line and Allen Johnson.
Final eliminations for the Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals kick off Sunday at noon ET. Keep up with the action at www.nhra.com.
