Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch finished the weekend at Darlington Raceway with two top 10 finishes each in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races. Elliott Sadler was also runner-up in the Nationwide Series race Friday night.
Kenseth, in the No. 20 Game Stop Toyota Camry, earned a third-place finish Friday night in the VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington, following that up with a fourth-place finish in the Bojangles’ Southern 500 on Saturday night in the No. 20 Home Depot/Husky Tools Toyota. Kenseth led 12 laps in the Nationwide Series race, which was won by Chase Elliott.
Busch’s No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota finished fourth in the Nationwide Series race, then finished sixth Saturday night in the Cup Series race in the No. 18 M&Ms Toyota. Busch led a race-high 84 laps in the Nationwide Series race, where he was the pole sitter.
Denny Hamlin finished 19th in the No. 11 Sport Clips Toyota on Saturday night, leading three laps early on in the race – the only JGR driver to lead in the Cup Series race.
Sadler finished second in the No. 11 Sport Clips Toyota after leading three laps during the event. On the race-ending green-white-checkered, Sadler’s crew elected to take two tires instead of four, and was beaten by Elliott, who took four tires.
