Sochi Winter Olympics: Final medal count

The 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi have come to an end, according to a Time report on Sunday. As the competitors of the many competitive games ends, the eyes are on the final medal count. The country that hosted the event, Russia, has come out on top of the list.

Russia ended up with 13 gold medals and 33 medals in total, putting them in the winner’s position. Coming in second is Norway which totaled 11 gold medals and 26 medals in total. Canada came in third place with 10 gold medals and 25 in total.

The United States is in fourth place with a total of 9 gold medals and 28 medals in all. For the United States, the 28 medals in total were nine less than the country had won in Vancouver’s Winter Games. The United States didn’t win any medals in speed skating this time around – the first time since 1984 that it hadn’t won in that competition. Additionally, for the first time in 78 years, the United States won no figure skating medals.
