Motor Trend reported earlier tonight (Feb.28,2013) that official photos of the 2014 Scion FR-S open concept convertible have leaked ahead of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The images confirm some spy shots taken of the Scion FR-S in South Africa earlier this month.
It looks like even though the roof has been removed, the rear seats remain. Even with the roof removed, the Scion FR-S still exudes its svelte and sleek look that only a low slung motor ( in the form of a boxer four) and compact rear wheel drive platform can provide. Inside it's standard Toyota fare, with the interior being offset by yellow highlights and accents here and there to differentiate convertible from hard top models. It almost looks like the Scion FR-S was made to be a convertible in the first place.
Engine choice will most likely remain the same with the same 200 hp boxer four found in the hard top.
With this open top roadster, Toyota has the Mazda MX-5 Miata right in its cross-hairs.And at the affordable price south of $25,000, the Miata has a right to be nervous.
Just wait until the amateur and professional drifters grab a hold of these convertibles. With loud graphics, 6 point roll cages and turbo charged motors pumping out horsepower well north of 300, this chassis will be an exciting addition to any drift competition.
The Scion FR-S is beautiful in convertible trim and should have no problem flying off the showroom floors whenever they come out (yet to be determined). I'm also pretty sure a few Honda designers are lamenting ever having dropped the Honda S2000 from production in the first place.
