Stewart-Haas Racing driver Kevin Harvick won his third pole of 2014 with his track-record performance Friday at Michigan International Speedway, home of Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400. Harvick’s 204.557 mph (35.198 seconds) lap in the final round of knock-out qualifying bested outside pole qualifier Jeff Gordon’s fast lap of 203.776 mph (35.333 seconds).
Dale Earnhardt Jr. starts third (203.729 mph/35.341 seconds), next to Aric Almirola in fourth (203.200 mph/35.433 seconds). Paul Menard (203.040 mph/35.461 seconds) and Brad Keselowski (202.908 mph/35.484 seconds) start fifth and sixth, respectively.
Jimmie Johnson and Kurt Busch make up Row 4, with Joey Logano and Brian Vickers in Row 5; Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson round out the top 12 qualifiers at Michigan.
Qualifying for the Nationwide Series Oillie’s Bargain Outlet 250 takes place Saturday at 10:35 a.m. ET, followed by the green flag at 2 p.m. ET. The Sprint Cup Series Quicken Loans 400 goes green Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Keep up with the action at www.nascar.com.
