The 2014 PowerShares Series has concluded at the Bridgestone Arena in Downtown Nashville. Fans from all over Middle Tennessee descended upon Nashville for this great event were treated to a great night of tennis filled with an abundance of energy and excitement that featured tennis legends, Ivan Lendl, Pat Cash, Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe. The format of the event is that the 4 players are paired off to play a one-set semifinal with the winners of the semifinals squaring off in a one-set final to determine the winner of the event.

In the first semifinal, Pat Cash and Ivan Lendl played a tight a set with no plot twists until 5-5 when Lendl donated his serve to Cash with some uncharacteristic errors and double faults. Cash couldn’t close the deal at 6-5, Lendl broke back with some electrifying shots to send it to a tie-break while saving a match point. The tie-break was straightforward with each player holding a match point against other, with Pat Cash winning the tie-break 9-7 to advance to final of the 2014 PowerShares Series Champions Challenge.

In the second semifinal, John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors faced each other for the first time since 1999. McEnroe came out firing on all cylinders, had Connors in trouble early, but Connors stayed steady to hold serve. The McEnroe serve and volley game was present too, but surprisingly he stayed back and hit plenty driving groundstrokes to put pressure on Connors. The pressure led to a break of serve for McEnroe at 3-3 in the set, and he went on hold serve two more times to advance to the final of the 2014 PowerShares Series Champions Challenge by a score of 6-4.

In the final, John McEnroe got off to an early start again, against Pat Cash who owns a 4-3 over him in the PowerShares Series Tennis action, by getting an early break of serve. McEnroe kept that early break advantage throughout the set. Cash had two break points to level the match in the 6th game of the set, but clutch serving by McEnroe erased those opportunities. McEnroe got another break of Cash in the 9th game to win the match and the 2014 PowerShares Series Champions Challenge by score of 6-3.
