Celebrate "Pi Day" on March 14, 2014 with some great deals that won't require you to figure out a math equation. Pizza Hut, Starbucks and Sbarro are all offering a deal in honor of this yearly celebration of Pi - the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, or approximately 3.14159.
While some will make a apple, cherry or banana cream pie as a play on words to celebrate this day for math lovers, there are other food deals that are just as sweet.
How about a pizza pie? Pizza Hut is giving away 140 $10 gift cards when people use the hashtag #PizzaHutPiDay on Twitter between 1 and 4 p.m. CST on March 14.
Sbarro is giving away 50 free slices of pizza (random winners) to Facebook fans who answer, "What famous scientist shares a birthday with National Pi Day?" The winners will be announced at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Many Whole Foods stores will be offering Pi Day festivities. ABC News states that activities will include "tastings, pie eating contests, pie a la mode, pie walks and warm pie sold out of the rotisserie." Many locations will also offer discounts on pies in the bakery area of the store.
No pie for you at Starbucks and no, drinks are $3.14, but you can get a free grande hot brewed coffee with the purchase of any breakfast sandwich on Friday at participating locations.
If you're wondering how National Pi Day came about, back in 2009 the House of Representatives designated it to be a day that "encourages schools and educators to observe the day with appropriate activities that teach students about pi and engage them about the study of mathematics."
