2014 People’s Choice Awards: Red carpet photos and TV winners

The People’s Choice Awards for 2014 were presented on Jan. 8 and the big winners in the TV category included Ellen DeGeneres with her record breaking 14th win, past host Queen Latifah, “The Good Wife,” “The Big Bang Theory” and many others. As the red carpet photos indicate, everyone had a great time at the Nokia Theater in L.A. (see slideshow to the left). For the first time ever, Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs from “2 Broke Girls” hosted the star-studded event, which aired on CBS on Wednesday night.

The comedy duo of Dennings and Behrs turned to past host, Queen Latifah, for advice about how to tackle the show. As posted on People’s on Jan. 7, Executive Producer Mark Burnett talked about his hosts and stated:

These guys are so funny and have great chemistry. I couldn’t be happier. I’m just letting them do what they want.

According to Fox News on Jan. 8, “Glee” received the most People’s Choice Awards nominations (8) in 2014. Katy Perry and Sandra Bullock followed with five each. Other past winners also nominated this year included Jennifer Aniston, Robert Downey Jr., One Direction, Taylor Swift, Jimmy Fallon, “True Blood” and “The X Factor.”

The People's Choice Awards are different from most Hollywood award shows. A panel of more than 6,000 entertainment enthusiasts, recruited by “EW” editors, determines the nominees and categories from the worlds of motion pictures, television and music. Then, the public gets to vote for the winners via the Internet. The year 2014 marked the 40th anniversary of the annual PCAs.

Several performers have won multiple People’s Choice Awards throughout the years, including Ellen DeGeneres (14), Garth Brooks (11), Tim Allen (10), Reba McEntire (8), Julia Roberts (8), and Oprah Winfrey (4).

There were many surprises and sweeps, including three wins by Justin Timberlake. To see him take home a 2014 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Album, be sure to watch the video above. Timberlake also won awards for Favorite Male Artist and Favorite R&B Artist. Jennifer Hudson was presented the Favorite Humanitarian Award.
