The three sports holding pre-ceremony events include figure skating, freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Both figure skating and snowboarding start their schedules with brand new events added for the 2014 games.

In figure skating, it’s the team competition, in which athletes from each discipline work together to accumulate the highest score for their team. Disciplines include men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs, and ice dancing pairs.

During the first night of competition, snowboarding will introduce slopestyle for the first time at the Olympic Games. The event gives athletes an opportunity to hit rails and jumpeswhile performing tricks on the mountain.
