No athlete from the United States has ever won an Olympic medal in the sport of biathlon. Three-time Olympians Tim Burke and Lowell Bailey will be looking to change that, though they'll face tough competition from northern European countries. A veteran member of the women's team includes Lanny Barnes, who also is a three-time biathlon Olympian.

The U.S. team also includes a high-school senior, as seventeen-year-old Sean Doherty will compete in his first Olympic Games. Last year, Doherty became the first American biathlete to ever win three medals in one world championship event. He did so at the 2013 junior worlds.
