NHRA Funny Car legend John Force picked up his 141st career win in the class, winning Sunday’s final eliminations at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington, near Seattle. Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel) and Jason Line (Pro Stock) also picked up Wallys at Pacific Raceways.
No. 1 qualifier Force earned early-round wins over Jeff Diehl, Cruz Pedregon and Alexis DeJoria on his way to the finals against Gary Densham. Densham, who qualified No. 15, earned wins over Courtney Force, Tim Wilkerson and Matt Hagan to reach the finals.
Kalitta, No. 2 qualifier in Top Fuel, won rounds over Mike Salinas, Troy Buff and Shawn Langdon to earn a final-round match-up against Antron Brown. Brown took wins over Bab Vandergriff, Richie Crampton and his Don Schumacher Racing teammate Tony Schumacher into the final round.
Line, No. 3 in Pro Stock qualifying, took his win over Greg Anderson after winning rounds over Mark Wolfe, V. Gaines and Shane Gray. Anderson defeated Deric Kramer, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Allen Johnson on his way to the finals.
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series gets a week off before returning to the track Thursday through Sunday, August 14th through 17th at Brainerd International Raceway, home of the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. Keep up with the action at www.nhra.com.
