NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver Erica Enders-Stevens won for the first time in the category at her home track, Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas (near Houston), site of the NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts SpringNationals. Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car) and Mike Janis (Pro Mod) also took home Wallys from the race.
Enders-Stevens, a native of Houston, took round wins over Matt Hartford, Jason Line and Jeg Coughlin Jr. to reach the final round against Allen Johnson. It was the second win of the season for Enders-Stevens, who was the No. 2 qualifier this weekend.
Brown earned his third win of the season and second-straight with round wins over Clay Millican, Spencer Massey and Shawn Langdon, reaching the finals against Khalid alBalooshi. Brown, also the No. 2 qualifier, also has wins at Phoenix and the Four-Wide Nationals at Charlotte.
Hight took home the Funny Car Wally after round wins against Bob Tasca III, Alexis DeJoria and Del Worsham; he went on to beat Jack Beckman in the finals. It was Hight’s third win of the season, having also won at Gainesville and Charlotte.
Janis took home his first win of the season in Pro Mod, beating Dan Stevenson, Ron Muenks and Steve Matusek on his way to the finals against Mike Castellana.
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series returns to the track May 16th through 18th at Atlanta Dragway, home of the 34th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals. Keep up with the action at www.nhra.com.
