The 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season kicks off Thursday through Sunday, February 6th through 9th with the Circle K NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in California, and there have been numerous off-season changes in the Pro Stock ranks.
Starting at the top of last year’s points standings, the former three-car team at J&J Racing, including the last two Pro Stock champs Allen Johnson (2012) and Jeg Coughlin Jr. (2013), is down to two after Vincent Nobile left for KB Racing, joining Jason Line and Greg Anderson. Mike Edwards, who finished fourth in points last year after dominating the regular season, sold all of his equipment to Chris McGaha – no word on Edwards plans from here forward.
Shane Gray, who finished fifth in points, gets a new teammate – Dave Connolly, who has been working as Erica Enders-Stevens’ tuner and part-time driver for the last few years at Cagnazzi Racing, which consolidated with Gray Motorsports. Enders-Stevens is also on the move, leaving Cagnazzi for Elite Motorsports, with co-tuners Rick and Rickie Jones; Rickie won his first Pro Stock race at the season-ending race at Pomona last season.
