Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel), Ron Capps (Funny Car), Chris McGaha (Pro Stock) and Michael Ray (Pro Stock Motorcycle) held onto their No. 1 spot in their respective ladders after the final two rounds of qualifying for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina.
Langdon’s fast pass of 3.753 seconds at 324.12 mph in qualifying Friday held up through Saturday, ahead of J.R. Todd (3.781 seconds/325.06 mph); Langdon faces Terry McMillan in round one of eliminations. Khalid alBalooshi, Antron Brown and Brittany Force rounded out the top five in Top Fuel qualifying.
Capps’ Friday pass of 4.059 seconds (314.24 mph) kept him ahead of Robert Hight (4.074 seconds/311.99 mph) when qualifying was complete; he’ll face Chad Head in the first round of eliminations. Tommy Johnson Jr., Bob Tasca III and Tim Wilkerson completed the top five in Funny Car.
McGaha’s Friday fast pass of 6.523 seconds at 213.10 mph held up through Saturday’s qualifying rounds. Erica Enders-Stevens held on to the No. 2 qualifier, followed by Dave Connolly, Shane Gray and Jeg Coughlin Jr. McGaha faces Larry Morgan in round one of eliminations.
Ray faces Katie Sullivan in the first round after his Friday fast pass of 6.816 seconds at 197.02 mph held up through Saturday’s rounds. Hector Arana Jr. moved up to No. 2, followed by Andrew Hines, Scotty Pollacheck and John Hall. Defending PSM champ Matt Smith, who set the zMAX Dragway track record at 198.32 mph during his second session qualifying run on Friday, settled into the No. 6 slot.
