2014 NHL playoffs: Printable bracket, first round schedules & Stanley Cup odds

The 2014 NHL playoffs schedule is officially set. The NHL playoffs will kick off this week as the top eight teams from each conference will battle it out for a shot at being crowned 2014 Stanley Cup champions. Sportsline.com reported on April 13 that the puck will officially drop this Wednesday, April 16 with three games on the schedule including Montreal vs. Tampa Bay, Columbus vs. Pittsburgh and Anaheim vs. Dallas.

The first round of the NHL playoffs is always the most exciting, and the most pressure filled for the higher seeded teams. The lower seeds, especially the No.7 and No. 8 teams are usually huge underdogs to advance to the second round of play. However that can sometimes work to their advantage. Not being the team most fans and experts think is going to win allows the lower seeded teams to be a bit more daring and loose.

A perfect example of one of these “David vs Goliath” match-ups will occur when the Boston Bruins face the Detroit Red Wings in round one. The Bruins are the No. 1 overall seed and are the favorite to win the Stanley Cup at 13/4. The Red Wings are 35/1 to win the Stanley Cup, and face even bigger odds to win their first round match-up.
However, here is where it could get interesting. Detroit won the season series vs. Boston this year 3 games to 1. A possible upset in the making? You never know!

Las Vegas odds makers have the Bruins as the team to beat in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs. Boston is listed as the clear cut favorite at 13/4 or +350. The Bruins are followed by St. Louis at 6/1, Pittsburgh at 7/1, Chicago at 8/1 and rounding out the top five is Anaheim at 9/1.

Here is a look at the current Stanley Cup odds for all 16 playoff teams and the complete round one schedule. Fans can click here for their own playoff printable bracket. Who do you think has the best chance at pulling off a round one upset?
