The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series kicks off its annual Western Swing this week with a trip to Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colorado, home of the 35th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals. The event takes place Friday through Sunday, July 18th through 20th and features all four of the NHRA’s top-tier categories: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is also on the race card this weekend.
Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Allen Johnson (Pro Stock) and Shawn Gann (Pro Stock Motorcycle) took home Wallys from the event last season. Johnson, with five wins at Bandimere, is among the drivers with the most victories at the track; John Force (six Funny Car wins) is also among the top all-time drivers at the track.
On Saturday, July 19th, ticket holders will be able to participate in the special “Go Red for Women Track Walk” prior to racing action to bring awareness to heart disease. The Track Walk gives fans the chance to walk the same track where their favorite drivers’ race and they will be joined by some of the NHRA’s top drivers.
On Friday, July 18th, on-track action kicks off with Sportsman qualifying at 11 a.m. MT; pro qualifying sessions begin at 4:45 and 7:15 p.m. MT. On Saturday, July 19th, Sportsman eliminations begin at 11 a.m. MT, followed by the final two pro qualifying sessions at 3:15 and 5:45 p.m. MT.
