NHRA Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson won his sixth career race at Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colorado, defeating teammate Jeg Coughlin Jr. in an all-Mopar final round in the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals. JR Todd (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also earned Wallys at Bandimere.
Johnson earned round wins over Tommy Lee, Chris McGaha and Dave Connolly to reach the finals against Coughlin Jr., who red-lighted in the final round.
Todd defeated Brittany Force in the Top Fuel final after earned early-round wins over Terry McMillen, Steve Torrence and Larry Dixon. It was Todd’s first win since 2008, and Force’s third runner-up finish of the season. In early rounds, rookie Jenna Haddock, in the first Top Fuel start of her career, defeated Tony Schumacher, who was the No. 1 qualifier.
Hight took the Wally back to John Force Racing in an all-JFR final round with boss and father-in-law John Force. Hight earned round wins over Todd Simpson, teammate Courtney Force and Tim Wilkerson.
Hines defeated Angie Smith, Jim Underdahl and Steve Johnson on his way to the finals against Michael Ray in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Hines made his PSM debut at Bandimere back in 2002; he now has three wins in five final-round appearances at the track.
The Western Swing continues next weekend, Friday through Sunday, July 25th through 27th with the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway in California. Keep up with the action at www.nhra.com.
