2014 Mazda6 gets up to 38 mpg highway rating for under $22K

The EPA has released its fuel economy ratings for the 2014 Mazda6 and lo and behold, the non-hybrid ride gets an eye-opening up to 26 city, 38 highway and 30 combined mpg (automatic). The manual version also comes in with an impressive 25 city / 37 highway / 29 combined. With a sticker price that is sure to make ya look, $20,880, the stylish midsized car gets a best-in-class for savings at the pump.

The Mazda6 is fitted with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine which can be paired with a choice of transmissions: the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission or SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic. Kicking out 184 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 185 lb-ft of torque at 3,250 rpm, the sexy sedan comes in three trim levels--i Sport, i Touring and i Grand Touring.

Fuel-wise, the Mazda6 is going wheel to wheel against the likes of the Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and a few other middle-weight contenders.

But hold your horses!

Later this year, the automaker is rolling out the red carpet for its the 2.2 SKYACTIV-D diesel, although the consumption figures have not been released, one can only assume, and rightly so, that the numbers might make you wanna dance a jig as you pass up gas stations. The diesel will more than likely only come in automatic. The move makes Mazda the first Japanese manufacturer to offer a diesel engine in the mid-sized segment in the U.S. (the Volkswagen Passat also offers one),

The gasoline-powered 2014 Mazda6 is on sale now.
