Autoblog reported earlier yesterday (Aug 21, 2013) that Lexus is bringing to life a winning design by one lucky DeviantArt designer for their 2014 Lexus IS. Rob Evans from Seattle Washington was chosen as the winning designer among numerous entries.
Earlier in July, Lexus announced a global design contest for their 2014 Lexus IS Sport sedan with the top prize being a one year lease on a 2014 Lexus IS, $2,000 and a trip to Las Vegas to see their design in the flesh.
Rob Evan’s winning design featured aggressive front and rear ends coupled with fenders all around to fit the massive wheel and rim set illustrated. The rims are deeply concaved complementing the “frame to the ground” setup very much popular in the aftermarket car community today.
Something has to be said about the way that Lexus chose their winner. Lexus didn’t choose a design from the creme de la creme of elite design school from around the world, but rather from any ordinary man with extraordinary skills in design. Much like Nissan went out to find some of its best drivers through the Playstation gaming platform and Gran Turismo, Lexus went out of its modus operandi to find a great design amongst the greater design community online.
Props to Lexus for thinking out of the box and picking a design in an unconventional way.
