2014 L.A. Comedy Shorts Film Festival screenplay winners and finalists announced

L.A. Comedy Shorts Film Festival posted the winners and finalists of the 2014 L.A. Comedy Shorts Movie Magic Screenwriter competition on the official festival website on April 14. Screenplay winners were named in four categories: Feature Comedy Screenplays, Short Comedy Screenplays, Half Hour Comedy TV Pilot Scripts and Half Hour Comedy TV Spec Scripts.

The 2014 festival runs in downtown Los Angeles from May 14-18. Now in its sixth year, L.A. Comedy Shorts has earned critical acclaim and made Moviemaker Magazine’s Top 5 Coolest Comedy Film Festivals list in 2013. LACS was co-founded by Gary Anthony Williams (“Boston Legal,” “Malcolm in the Middle”), Festival Director Jeannie Roshar and Festival Producer Ryan Higman. Former celebrity participants have included Emmy winning actresses like Jane Lynch (“Glee”), and Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”), Wayne Brady (“Whose Line Is It Anyway?” “Let’s Make a Deal”), Dax Shepard (“Parenthood”), Missi Pyle (“2 Broke Girls”, “The Crazy Ones”) and more.

Screenplay competition winners receive cash prizes, festival passes and invaluable industry meetings. The 2014 Screenplay winners in each category are as follows: Feature Comedy Screenplays “Zen and the Art of Karaoke” by B. Brisbane, Short Comedy Screenplays “Debbie the Viking” by Graham Parke, Half Hour Comedy Pilot TV Scripts “This Sh*t Again?” by Anthony Q. Farrell and Half Hour Comedy TV Spec Scripts “Modern Family – Clare’s Day Out” by Tracy Reilly. Two finalists were also named in each category.

LACS is a fun, four-day comedy film extravaganza held in downtown Los Angeles with 2014 Official Selection films being screened at the Downtown Independent Theater. Other exciting events include industry panels, parties at venues like Angel City Brewery and Kyoto Rooftop Garden Hilton Doubletree Los Angeles and a Red Carpet Awards Ceremony Gala at Exchange LA to close out the spectacular weekend.

L.A. Comedy Shorts remains committed to discovering talented unknown comedic filmmakers and writers and exposing their work to a live audience and key film industry players. VIP pass holders will have priority access to all festival events.
