On Sunday April 13 in Haines City, Florida a very strong field of pro triathletes fought it out for top honors in Ironman 70.3 Florida.
Going into the race the two favorites for the pro men category were Greg Bennett and Viktor Zyemtsev.
They did not disappoint as the final outcome was not decided until late in the race.
Bennett and Zyemtsev were just seconds apart in the swim, but it was in the bike where Bennett built up a sizable lead when he posted a time almost five minutes faster than Zyemtsev.
However he could not hold his lead and it was Viktor Zyemtsev winning the race on the strength of his 13.1 mile run time of 1:13:39, the fastest run split of the day.
Artem Parienko took third place and was less than a minute behind the winner.
For the pro women it was Laura Bennett with the lead after the swim but Caitlin Snow surged to the front on the 56 mile bike course and held it for the rest of the race.
Snow dominated the run and finished the race almost seven minutes ahead of second place finisher Margie Shapiro.
Lauren Goss took the final spot on the podium.
The pro triathletes were racing for prize money and Kona Ranking Points toward the World Championships set to take place in the Fall of 2014.
